“Layers”

I apply another layer of clay, an image shaped from reference photos taken at Three Lynx that gray day. One piece atop another, it occurs to me they are very like the community itself. A home built in the 1920s has evidence of updates, remodels made perhaps in the ‘40s. A table from the ‘60s, a sofa from the ‘70s. A 1920s built-in medicine cabinet with a new knob on its door. No one lives here now but someone will again someday, I am almost sure. Next door, the driveway has a brand-new car in it. Applying another layered image, it has become a meditation on the continuity of life in this remote community.
