“Connections: Oak Grove/Three Lynx”
by Leslie Cheney-Parr
Bob Steele took us on the tour of Three Lynx, the town built to accommodate the people who built and eventually ran the Oak Grove Powerhouse, an active community since the 1920s, and then toured us through the Oak Grove Powerhouse. I sketched and took photographs absorbing the history and the setting. I was struck by the desire to combine the location and the people. My work used movement when I began to design the layout, combining the aboveground turbine (which had the personal touch of a cut and welded bird on its top) with the water, trees and homes. My work is about man and nature at this special place. The people who lived there brought electricity to Portland and lived very private lives at this remote location
