“Three Lynx: Living There”
by Norma Piper
Participating in the Art Jam at Oak Grove Powerhouse was fun and a privilege. I have photographs of the powerhouse taken by my father soon after it was built in 1924. He is gone now, but his interest in facilities such as this, and this one in particular, sparked my enthusiasm. To actually be guided through the facility by knowledgeable PGE staff, Bob Steele in particular, was a special treat.
Also, I have friends who lived in the Three Lynx area. The life there appears to have been sweet and Spartan. The particular house that I chose to photograph and paint is of the era and style (bungalow) of the house in Portland in which I was raised, so again, I have a personal interest.
The medium I chose, acrylic, suits the fresh and immediate feeling I had about the Three Lynx area. Although it sprinkled when we were there, as you can see, it was a beautiful spring day. The wood panel on which I have painted also is fitting for the feeling of the wooden buildings at Three Lynx.
Thank you to PGE and the Estacada Area Arts Commission for the opportunity to participate in this project.
